Ava woke in a cold sweat, the memory of the nightmare already forgotten. She slowly sat up and surveyed the room. It was still dark but she could see well enough. All was normal. Iris was still asleep next to her. The one good thing this life had given her. She didn’t deserve her.

August 6, 1945, A Day That Shook the World
I was told to clear the streets, like everyday. The streets need to be clear in case of firebombing. I didn’t know why we needed to, Hiroshima had never been bombed. An air raid signal was called earlier in the day but nothing happend. But we still needed to do it everyday before school.
